What I wanted to do : Finish the rest of the monkey bread for breakfast. (I had to indulge, I've been spying the recipe forever.)
What I did : Had a small piece of monkey bread and put the rest back in the refrigerator. ( I doubt it will be any good tomorrow morning.)
What I wanted to do : Order a diet coke with lunch today.
What I did : Ordered light lemonade instead. (One entire day without diet coke!!)
What I wanted to do : Sit at home on the couch and watch mindless TV with husband.
What I did : Swam laps at the pool. (And then came home and watched mindless TV with husband.)

Status Quo
So, I had my weigh in yesterday and it seems as though I am remaining as is for this week.
I was kind of bummed because I have ONE POUND until I reach my 10%... at which point I get my first big reward. One stinking pound.
I thought for sure it would happen this week, but apparently the effort that I put it was not enough. (I wonder if the Caramel Bugles had anything to do with it?)
I'm anticipating a rough week this week, since we're having a little "staycation", but I'm still going to try!

A Love Letter
Dear Friend,
I just wanted to write a little note to let you know how important you are to me.
I really don't know if I could make it through a day without you.
My first thought every morning is of your bubbly sweetness.
You have a way of making even the worst days seem a little bit better.
The warmest days seem just a little bit cooler.
You are so refreshing.
So wonderful.
So satisfying.
You make me so very happy.
Thank you, Diet Coke, for everything you do for me.
I love you.
Yours truly,
the Turtle

Running (Turtle Style)
When I first decided that I wanted to start running, I knew that there was no way I could just up and run 3 miles. I couldn't even do 3 minutes.
So I started researching programs on how to start running, and came across Couch 2 5K. The program is designed for people who have never run before, and gradually adds time to running intervals while decreasing time from walking intervals, until you are running for 30 minutes straight. (I personally think that the title is a little bit misleading, because I still can not finish a 5K in 30 minutes, and I've been running for about 4 months now.) But regardless, the program totally works!
It is super encouraging to see how you can run longer each week, especially when you don't think that you can. I was always so full of pride at the end of my workout, knowing that I pushed my body to do something it had never done before.
My husband helped me out and downloaded this app to my iPod, so that all I had to do was listen to the prompts to tell me when to run and when to walk. Super helpful, since running is hard enough, let alone looking at my watch every minute to see when to start and stop. After all, it kind of always felt like time to stop.
So if you want to start running, which I never thought I would do, this is the way to start. And take it one day at a time. And repeat as many days as you need to. Pretty soon you'll be running for 30 minutes straight! And maybe you'll be running a 5K in that time. Leaving me in your dust...

All You Can Eat
Tonight we went for all-you-can-eat salad and pizza at a local restaurant. I was totally aiming to go heavy on the salad and super light, if at all, on the pizza.
So we arrived at the restaurant, got all settled in, and I went to fill my salad plate. I made my usual salad (lettuce, cucumber, mushrooms, bell pepper, a pinch of cheese, and raisins) and went back to the table to enjoy.
Pretty soon the pizza startedcalling screaming my name, and the next thing I knew I had consumed 3 pieces of pizza (at least they were small?) and 2 cinnamon twists. Yikes.
I somehow made it home and in to my pajamas without the workout that I had intended for tonight.
Needless to say, I'm super disappointed about the choices that I made today.
All I can do is start over tomorrow.

Torture
So I’m pretty sure that I signed up for some new kind of torture instead of Code Pink Boot Camp.
I’m talking the kind of torture that includes your heart pounding out of your chest, needing an oxygen tank to breathe, and not being able to sit on the toilet the next day.
I’m also pretty sure that everyone else in my class hates me, because while I trudge myself up the hill at barely a walking pace, they have to run up and down on repeat until i make it to the top. I would hate me.
But when I feel defeated and pack up my stuff to leave after one of these very embarrassing moments (where I was lapped about, um, 5 times), I am reminded that everyone has to start somewhere. So I unpack, suck it up, and hold my chin up high, because finishing last is better than quitting.
At least in my book.

Accountability
Here it is. My new accountability partner.
I’ve tried to be accountable to myself, but I’m kind of forgiving.
I’ve tried to be accountable to my husband, but he kind of lets me off the hook a lot.
So I’ll be accountable here. And to anyone who wants to listen.
I need to get healthy. In a BIG way. I recently started running (very slowly) and I joined Weight Watchers, again. Because I need to lose weight and set a good example for my kids, who watch everything I do. So this is the start of my journey. Thanks for joining me.
